Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 5, that since the first executions linked to the protests earlier this year, at least 56 people have been executed on national security-related charges. According to him, 27 of those individuals had been convicted in cases related to the widespread protests earlier this year. The first executions in these cases were announced on March 19, 2026. Officials of the Iranian regime reported the execution of three men accused of killing police officers during the December–January protests. The case marked the beginning of a new wave of executions linked to nationwide protests.
